The headmaster
of Mvindeni Primary School told us that the
building is in a very bad shape and that the roof needs to be repaired. We
first donated over 1,000 new text books (January 2005) and now we want to
build 20 new classrooms. The headmaster
of Mwamanga Primary School told us that
they need desperately new school desks. So our first main target is to
provide this school with 100 new school desks. The
headmaster of Bongwe primary school told us that three classrooms
of his school desperately need floors; right now the floors of these
classrooms are just sand. He also needs to have a new building with 4
restrooms. His school can use also text and reading books and shelves for
the library. Another Dutch charity program will do its up most best to
help this school. Orphans - more and more students in
this region of Kenya become orphans. They have no sources to pay for their
school supplies. Our "Ukunda Schools Project" will try to find
funds for individual students too.
On our webpage "Most needed" we will publish the most needed
items. This page will be updated frequently. We hope you will support us
in our efforts to provide the schools and individual students. See also
"Your help" for more details on how you can help them.

Ukunda is a small village near the touristy Diani Beach (approx. 30 miles south of the harbor Mombasa). In the village and surrounding area are several elementary and highschools. Most of these schools need very badly extra funds for school equipment and school building renovations. These funds are highly needed to bring the academic standards to a higher level.

For as far we know, the Orphans' Home "Diani Children's Village" is sponsored by some German people (e.g. Christine Schneider): see the website
http://www.kenyahilfe.de/index.htm
).
Under the name Mekaela Academies another German charity project sponsors three schools: Manuel Alexander School, Logitech Primary School (L.P.S.) and Watoto Secondary School (see website
http://watoto.de/index2_e.htm
)
The students in Kenya have to wear school uniforms. The price for one school uniform is around EURO 30, / US Dollar 35,- . The average year income for a family is around EURO 500,- . Looking at these numbers, you might understand that parents do not have money to buy more school equipment for their children, such as pens, notepads, textbooks, etc. Only at most
60% of the people of Kenya has a regular job. |
