Our vacation in Kenya School Project Kenya Endangered Animals and Nature

Bongwe Primary School needs concrete floors for three class rooms. They also need a new building for the boys restrooms, shelves for the library and learning resources. The new Dutch foundation "Stichting Hulp" is also trying to raise funds for this school.

More and more students in Ukunda area become an orphan. If we get enough resources, than it will be our wish to help these individual students too. We will not publish names of these students since we respect their privacy. So, instead of names, we publish these kind of donations just with the name "Individual Student".

Our targets for 2005:

  • raising money for new classrooms Mvindeni Primary School; it is not possible to renovate the old classrooms. We started to build one new classroom (January 2005). This will be done by Constructor Wema House Building. The first classroom will cost 300,000 Kenyan Shillings (KES). The other classrooms will cost 280,000 KES each.

  • raising money for 100 new school desks for the Mwamanga Primary School. We think we need in total around 300,000 KES to deliver 100 desks to this school.

  • Working together with others to see how we can help Bongwe Primary School

  • Making plans to see how we can help orphan students at the primary schools.

Below the text of the letter we received from the Headmaster Mrs. Rigga of Mvindeni Primary school. As you can read, they need your help badly! Concerning Learning Resources: English language and/or Swahili language. The letter below is exemplary for most Ukunda schools.

THE GENERAL MANAGER/CO-ORDINATOR/ORGANISATION

Dear Sir,

RE: REQUEST FOR AID TO BUILD AND EQUIP MVINDENI PRI. SCH

Mvindeni is one of the Local Primary Schools in Diani Location, Msambweni division. The School has well behaved students, community as wel as staff. However infrastructure of the school is so poor that it could be contributing to the poor academic standards.

As a new Heads of institution, we have embarked on the programme of improving the school in terms of infrastructure and academic performance. The purpose of this letter is to request help from your organisation to build up the school in the form of:-

a) Furniture: eg tables, chairs, desks, shelves, shutters, cupboards etc (either old or new)

b) Building materials: paints, nails, iron sheets, cements, blocks, etc

c ) Learning Resources: e.g. story books, text books, geometry instruments, pens, pencils, rulers, etc.
